I ordered size XS for my 4 year old son and he is smaller, below average for height and weight (I'm not sure of his height but he only weighs about 33lbs) - he still fits comfortably in all of his 3Ts . clothes and can even wear some 2T clothes comfortably. The size chart says XS is 5Y - I would say it's more like a 4T and maybe even a 3T compared to Carter brand clothing (which I think is a bit larger than other brands), for example. The XS fits him perfectly at the moment, so for anyone unsure of which size to buy I would recommend going up at least a size or two depending on your child's height and weight percentile and how long you will be wearing this tank top would like. Tops to suit your child. I also hang our clothes to dry so I can't tell if they shrink in the dryer or not, although I suspect they do since they are cotton (which would be another reason to up the size). Aside from the controversial sizing, I'm giving these shirts five stars because they're cotton and not the harsh synthetic material found in most clothes these days, and my son loves the shark print in the three packs I received. He always likes to wear them, I can only recommend them.
