The length can be shortened
I ordered a belt for my brother without knowing the size. The belt is adjusted by cutting the part at the buckle and carving out a new hole to attach to the buckle. A leather punch is used to punch a new hole. Mounted the strap, adjusted the length and reinstalled in less than 5 minutes.
