I have bought several of these over the past five years, two in the same color and one in the other. I love her! People laugh at the size. It was called, among other things, my "Mary Poppin bag”. This is an amazing bag. I have no kids, I don't go to school, and I have no "legitimate" reason for having a bag that big. I do not care! Spacious, cute, durable. And great to mention again. One downside that I've bought in the past is the nice large zip pocket that has been eliminated. It really cost him a fifth star. As for the smell, which some people complain about, it's ok! If I had a specific medical sensitivity, this could be an issue. This will be a temporary problem. It's a minor odor and I often find that new things have odors but are not toxic. Unless it's a medical or other genuine hypersensitivity issue, I think it's fine. The bag is a bit stiff and that will go away with a little use. It is used TONS!
