This is really a very small block; smallest toaster I've seen in probably 20 years. Our other was MUCH larger. We could actually bake food in it, which is why we bought it so we didn't have to fire up our huge oven just to bake something small. But while we could, say, bake a piece of chicken or fish, and of course reheat an entire frozen pizza, it didn't really behave/bake like an oven, especially anything made with flour. Even when we baked something like chicken there, the fat splattered over the sides over time. This resulted in a smoky and burning smell with each use and due to the design it was impossible to clean it from the inside to get rid of it like we can do with our large stove. It also cost a lot more, and then suddenly it stopped working. Again! This is the third toaster to do this in about ten years and we're not wasting money on it anymore! So all we really needed was a toaster that could process large, long slices of bread from round farmhouse loaves or heat up 1-2 portions. portions of food for us. DOES THIS A GREAT JOB while not taking up much space at all, which we really like too. Something else. Over the years, every slot toaster has died as strands of wire evenly spaced on both sides burned off one by one, causing our toast to toast unevenly and eventually not toast at all. This toaster features heavy duty bar heating elements at the top and bottom protected by much stronger reflectors/diffusers. Some have complained that it dries their toast instead of toasting it, but by simply playing with different temperature and time combinations to find the right combination, it now does an excellent job of toasting individual slices through to multiple slices of bread , covering the entire grate. Perfection. And since they're well protected and there's a gap between the metal sides and the heating elements, it should be relatively easy to clean the device even very thoroughly if necessary without damaging it. This is a simple, durable, old school toaster that's cheaper than many plain old slotted toasters and great value for money. We are very happy with this purchase and hope it will last for many years to come! External dimensions: 8 3/8" tall from the stand to the (outer) top of the device; 9.5" from the rubber feet on the back that prevent it from pressing against the back wall, to the widest part of the device below, but 10" from feet to handles. Bore: 9 1/2" wide x 5 1/2" high x 7" deep. The inner shelf (9.5″ x 7″) is flush with the side and back so the usable space is slightly smaller to prevent food from getting inside. touch the metal sides, although there is no problem for bread/toast to lightly touch the sides.
