This is the absolute best thing you can buy for small birds. I have two parrots and a parakeet and everyone loves this balance bike. It has a sort of mesh design where they can be clamped and stay secure as the wheel moves. Birds really start thinking when they see their weight moving the wheel. However, know that they will not use it like a rat. It's more like a turn or two per bird movement. They climb different parts of the wheel, see how it spins and then test the wheel. They all love it! As a simple constraint, I decided to limit wheel spin time to one bird at a time. It is possible, though unlikely, that the bird would have hit its head if it had paid the latch while the other turned the wheel. However, if it's a birdie each time, this won't happen. If you want multiple birdies to use the wheel, be sure to control play time because if they're all doing different things, the birdie can get hurt without expecting a track to come his way. All in all it's great for the birds. . If you've been looking for a wheel for your birds, look no further! The poles bisecting the wheel are great because the birds move on them and freak out when it spins. Additionally, the open design allows them to move freely in and out of the wheel as they see fit.
