My rug arrived folded in half and then folded in half again and tied with laces to keep it from rolling up in transit. When I removed all packaging materials, the mat was still folded. It's been almost a month since I received it and it's still not quite flat. I put it on the stove by the fireplace to see if it ever flattened. Interestingly, the cat likes to sit on it like a meatloaf (hands clasped) and also lie on it. This is a very textured mat, the honeycomb part feels like plastic. It appears that these are two layers connected by some material like velcro. I don't know if this mat is suitable for a cat litter because if it doesn't flatten out I won't put it in the cat area.
