Not enough performance in computer accessories and peripherals

I bought this to connect some external hard drives to my computer because the ones I was using didn't have enough ports. If you don't plug in a fancy extra power adapter that isn't included, it's useless. It shows the hard drive is connected but doesn't allow you to use it.
