My previous camera, which I have used successfully for many years, was the Canon SD870 IS Digital Elph. We're still working on it after 5 years, but we decided to buy this new blue 310 HS Elph four months ago because we wanted higher resolution video, a slightly smaller body and better outdoor night shots (the previous camera was in the latter very bad). . Unfortunately this new Elph 310 was very disappointing due to the following shortcomings: 1. Despite the successful installation of the driver on my Windows Vista computer and the fact that Picasa simply and automatically uploads all the photos to the camera, Picasa cannot display the camera or download videos. This means that every time I want to download a video to my computer, I have to mount the camera as a drive and manually copy the video to the Picasa drive on my computer. This is quite annoying as the camera saves videos from different days in different folders on the camera.2. After only 4 months of very infrequent use, the top of the protective film no longer closes, leaving the lens unprotected from dust and dirt even when the camera is not in use. Although I would happily return it to be covered under warranty, we are going on a trip soon and will need the camera. I've tried calling customer service to see if there is a local place where it can be fixed before we leave (no time to send it in and get it back before our trip) but Canon of course don't answer their 1- 800 number . just leaves a message that they are closed. Their website doesn't even list the hours of operation for their 1-800 number ([.] For such a large company the workmanship and not even posting customer service hours is pretty disappointing. 3. Image quality; We just had our first major holiday with this one camera we were in hawaii for 10 days and i was disappointed with the quality of many photos many of the outside photos looked blurry and fake - i retouched the photos to increase the exposure i rarely had this problem with my previous generation elph , and it seems to have appeared in a lot of our camping photos with this new Elph, I don't know what happened to Canon but in my experience with this camera the quality of their Elph line has gone down, disappointed.
