I have researched long and hard, tried Polk PSW10 and Polk HTS SUB 10 BLK WAL, I can also compare it with Bose Cinemate 15 Acoustimass as well as old Bose speakers for $999 I have. It's small, which is great for those looking for a small subwoofer. It doesn't look as good as the HTS Sub, but it sounds a lot better than the extra $40 you pay for it over the Polk. The Bose speakers are scientifically accurate with the slightest hum, especially the acoustic mass with the $999 speakers. But they lack the warmth of even the cheapest Polk subwoofer. Somewhere between mids and lows for Bose I think. The Polk PSW10 loses a whole range of frequencies compared to this speaker. If you can afford it, forget it. The Polk HTS is bigger than the PSW10, sounds a lot better and looks a lot nicer than this one with the bars on it. But it suffers from the same boom problem as the PSW10, which becomes an issue when you crank up the subwoofer volume. This is a problem as there are songs where the bass is too boomy and if you turn the subwoofer volume down you actually lose the bass at that volume - so what's the point? Klipsch are not as warm as Polks, not as cold, harsh and precise as Bose and yet they are very good speakers with much less hum and you can crank the volume up quite a bit before the hum starts and even then it's not bad. the next level, that sounds even better, but for my purposes I think it's more than enough. For home cinema this is perfect, for music you can of course get a better subwoofer than this for more than β¬$$. I would pay for a better subwoofer than this if I can listen to music all the time even when I'm working and I'm really that obsessed with sound because I listen to it so much - I'd go higher than this speaker. But for most normal people who come home from work, tired, want to relax in the evenings and weekends, because that should be more than enough. If your room/hall is very large, I can of course take something larger. But for small/medium rooms this low distortion type is more than adequate for the price even at high volume. I would buy it if you're looking for good enough sound without wanting to pay extra just for the subwoofer. Update: I returned both and got two Klipsch R-110SW subwoofers instead. It's only $75 more and its price is more stable. The price of this one has come down since I've had it. The reason I ended up bringing it back is to compare it to my Bose speaker which has no boom at all. While this sub is very cute, very small, and has a much better sound than the Polk, it's still a bit boomy, which makes all the difference when there's a better sub for just $75 more at a more stable price point. Klipsch R- The 110SW subwoofer beats everything I've heard before - wow! Very clear, no noise! There's a big, big difference - a little bigger, a lot heavier, but very little distortion. I will post my review of this sub on his site. I'm recording in a studio, maybe that just makes me more sensitive to distortion.
