Review on πŸ’Ύ High-performance KingSpec 2242 NGFF 512GB M.2 SSD for Ultrabooks - SATA III 6Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive (512GB) by Tyler Jacob

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works with my old EliteBook 840 G1

I received the drive a day later than originally expected but with all the weather, pandemic and all, it wasn't a terrible hassle. The drive was easy to install, but the notches where you connect it to the computer were a little misleading. My laptop only has one notch in the socket but the drive has two. I'm not sure what's going on there, but everything seems fine. One thing really caused a bit of a disappointment with this purchase. When you install the card, you need to attach it to the computer board with a small screw. However, no screw is included with the drive, nor was it on the existing circuit board. I managed to get a working screw from my grandson but he had to get it from an old computer he had in his closet. This problem could easily be solved by including a screw in the kit. Another thing that might interest potential buyers is that when I first added the drive to my computer, it didn't show up in the Explorer window or Device Manager. general. I was able to do a google search which explained that the drive must first be initialized using the disk manager that comes with windows. I suppose you could argue that I "should just know how" but a simple paragraph would save the hassle. After initializing the drive, I found that it was just as fast as you'd expect from an SSD, which means it's really fast. If any of the above were fixed I would give this article 5 stars instead of 4. Now that you've read this review you can rate it 5 stars because you know two things about it that I didn't!

  • Electronics
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
