They worked exactly as expected. They took a little longer to fully absorb the water than I thought, but after soaking overnight they were fully formed and about the size of balls. They look very pretty and are great fun for kids to engage in sensory activities (read: I still left my 2 year old's hands in the vase and mixed them all up and he loved it). I've seen them used in place of water at weddings, but they're utterly useless for this purpose because they don't actually provide water for cutting stems. I foolishly left some hydrangeas in because I thought they were ok and they all wilted in one day unlike the stems I left in plain water which were ok. I used these beads for a black and white/rainbow baby shower, adding just a few inches of water to the bottom of each vase with beads and colors already fully formed for the event, but not for long. As the pearls are exposed to the air, they will continue to draw more water from the bottom of the vase to maintain their maximum size, which of course is not good for flowers! I am currently letting them dry in a single layer on boards and hope to save them for future use. I'll update if that fails. I'm glad I got them. Would buy again! White/Rainbow Baby Shower and simply added a few inches of water to the bottom of each vase with beads already fully formed within and flowers sustained for the event but not for much longer.
