Great Idea Badly Executed

This product is an example of a great idea that was executed so poorly you have to wonder what they were thinking . In its current form, the OXO "Good Grips Wire Cheese Slicer" is suitable as a slicer. It has excellent grip and looks very good. Best for cutting thick (rather than thin) slices of cheese due to non-adjustable distance between wire and roller. The real problem lies in the cable itself. It often detaches and slides off the slicer. If this happens you will need to slide it over the curved and smooth chrome sides of the slicer and tighten it with the wheel on the slicer base. There's just a small, shallow groove at the ends of each side to hold the wire in place; There is no groove or guide to hold the wire where the wire is most likely to slip. It is very difficult to keep the cable from slipping when the wheel is tightened. Our experience is that after the first slip, the wire keeps slipping off with almost every use no matter how hard we spin the wheel. A small design change to prevent this would make this piece a winner.

Pros
  • The tension wheel allows you to tighten the wire if it is slack
Cons
  • too stupid
