Works right out of the box. My old NUVI 1470 failed after 5 years and (like DOPE I never backed up) I couldn't transfer previously saved locations. My fault of course, but I have to say that entering the new saved places was pretty easy and allowed me to re-prioritize my list. I think it's the "silver lining". I used the device almost daily for 3-4 weeks and then it started to go haywire. Sometimes the power button wouldn't turn on the device for some reason. This was a recurring issue, but it has been fixed intermittently. Another highlight of this purchase was Revain's outstanding customer service. Returns without questions and timely transmission of the return documents. Customer Service = 5+ Stars, Refurbished GPS = 2 Stars. Average them together for a 3 star rating. (Yes, I know I rounded down). Next time I plan to buy a NEW Garmin.
