Trash to Treasure: Biostar K8M800 MBd Upgrade to 4GB - BiOS Detected - Memtest86 Passed

Objective: Setting up a legacy 2008 Linux-based platform as an informational web browser and media player? Platform: Motherboard: Biostar K8M800 CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Bit: 64 Graphics: NVIDIA NV44A [GeForce 6200] Drivers: nvidia v: 304.137 DIMM: Initially installed 2GB was the maximum specified by Biostar. A platform with professional features. Action: I decided to try this inexpensive Komputerbay 4GB 2X 2GB DDR2 800MHz PC2-6300 PC2-6400 DDR2 800 (240 PIN) DIMM Desktop Memory. Result: I now have a legacy platform with 4GB of memory instead of the maximum advertised 2GB. It also passed several Memtest86 memory tests with no errors. Usage: I am using the following Linux Mint OS: Kernel: 4.9.0-9-amd64 x86_64 Bit: 64 Desktop: Cinnamon 4.0.10 Distribution: LMDE 3 Cindy. The proprietary NVIDIA NV44A [GeForce 6200] driver was installed using manual methods as it is no longer automatically supplied by distributions. All of the following "use casesโ€ will benefit from this memory upgrade. Framing videos play well. Full screen HDMI videos sometimes play back with random artifacts. Editing and web browsing is smooth. Not tried: Neither a Windows 7 Pro installation nor a Windows 10 installation was carried out. I assume that Windows 7 Pro can be installed without any problems. But I haven't tried these settings. Conclusion: If anyone has a mission that these older boards can fulfill, then this inexpensive memory upgrade should be considered.
