Review on πŸš— Enhanced Playmags Stronger Car Set: Exciting Pieces for Endless Fun by Ellington Gardner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

As good as Magna Tiles and maybe better

I bought these for my 4 children for Christmas after weeks of agonizing over reviews for this product and several other magnetic tile sets. We already have 132 Magna tiles and enjoy playing with them. I read the Playmags reviews and was confused because some reviews said even a simple tower would collapse, others said they were indistinguishable from Magna Tiles. I decided to take the risk and am very glad I did. Perhaps the difference in reviews is that the Playmag magnets have recently been upgraded to have stronger magnets. Anyway, I didn't find any of the complaints in the negative reviews to be true. The tile is really very similar to Magna Tiles. They have the same number of magnets and rivets as Magna tiles, and the magnets and rivets are in the same locations as Magna tiles (see photos of Magna tiles and Playmag tiles side by side). Even the colors are very similar. In fact, the Playmags magnets seem to me to be "stickier" than the Magna Tiles magnets. I did a very unscientific parallel test by building two tall, skinny towers (see photo - Magna Tile tower on the right and Playmag tower on the left). Each level was built from four cube-shaped square tiles, and each tower was 14 levels high. I was able to build both towers, but the Magna Tile tower was more wobbly and fell apart when dismantling, while the Playmag tower remained stable. Playmags are also fully compatible with Magna Tiles. I will have no hesitation in purchasing Playmags for our future magnetic tile needs.
