What always bothers me about these hands is not the joints, but the base. I've had ones that wouldn't stay in place and kept falling off even with a light load. The base for this is really solid though: the part that rests against the underside of the table is a wide metal disc. Two thick rubber squares ensure it stays in place. I also really like the clamping mechanism. The silver rod slides in and out, allowing you to mount the base right next to the wall and still quickly tighten and loosen the base. The joints are strong and smooth for adjustment. The ball joint is also solid. It came with zip ties to stabilize it but I don't think they are necessary. The only problem is that the microphone adapter only works with thin microphones (two or three fingers wide). Mine is thick and doesn't taper much. I guess I should have known it wouldn't fit, but I can still use my hand to hold my webcam or phone over my desk. (Mine is attached to a bookshelf right next to my desk because my desk isn't wide enough to hold a metal disk.)
