It looks like a silly disposable kitchen utensil that ends up in the back of a drawer. NO, THAT IS NOT SO! I use it almost daily to chop garlic and ginger. He works like a champ, with two caveats: 1. Buy a big one. I replaced my original one after 3 years and couldn't tell from the list if the one I was using was the XLarge or the regular, so I ordered the regular. Even for 1 clove of garlic IMHO it's really not enough. The large one will hold 2 or 3 cloves of garlic, halved to mince evenly, or 1 inch of peeled ginger, quartered. Previously, the manufacturer showed in the photo a small device, the size of which is ideal for digging minced meat out of the wolf. The new one I just received didn't include it. I would say that it is simply necessary - very convenient. And one more thing, as other reviewers have said, rinse immediately after use. Enough good water flow. Otherwise, the garlic hardens and turns into a substance used on space shuttle nose cones.
