This switch is worse than a 10 year old intermittent switch on a cart. If you pull the switch all the way out, it turns off. You will need to pull it out about halfway and/or hold it in that position while driving. It's cheap, bad design. Buy it if you need it as it works but I will look for another alternative. This is an unsafe design for night driving. I ended up with a replacement rocker style derailleur that attaches to a hole of the same size. Much better than this, no intermittent problems and very durable.
