We bought this hood to replace a microwave we have installed on the hob and have been using it for about a month. We already had an outlet from a previous microwave so plugging it in wasn't a problem. We tested it before installing it and everything worked fine. We manufacture a custom hood to surround the hood. One thing we didn't imagine prior to our purchase was what the underside of the hood would look like when placed on the stove. The finish of the Kobe hood looks like a professional hood, the interchangeable grilles and finished edges look great. However, the hood itself is smaller than the closet we built around it. To make it clearer, the wood is visible around the finished edges of the hood as it cooks. I didn't want to paint the wood and didn't want to worry about grease build up on the wood etc. To counteract this, we cut a stainless steel insert (to cover any part of the wood protruding from below) from a cut sheet and then used metal snips to cut a hole for the hood to fit through. The cooker hood comes with a prefabricated lid that houses the fittings and grate, so any imperfections in the stainless steel are well hidden. We installed a similar range hood in our previous house with the help of a contractor who drilled a hole for ventilation. We did this setup ourselves and bought a 6" drill bit to bring out the exhaust hole, a bracket to connect the hood to the outside, and a connector assembly to finish the outside off with the siding. About drafts outside the house through the hood. The range comes with a damper fitted to the top of the hood. Between this flap and the flap attached to the outdoor unit, there is no access to the kitchen (even when the temperature is below zero). The fan is VERY quiet at low speeds, noticeable at medium speeds and even louder at high speeds. However, there is no vibration or annoying noise when running at high speed. The fan is mounted 30 inches above our cooktop and moves air very well, and we only had to operate at high speed once for anything to burn. The light is a bit harsh, but suitable for cooking. I don't think they would make a great night light for the kitchen. I hope this information has been helpful to some of you as I have answered my own questions whilst searching for the right cooker hood and we found it!
