I tag documents on my iPad Pro all day and have had an Apple Pencil almost since day one. The Apple Pencil works great for my purposes. However, I was looking for a cheaper option that uses the same technology (i.e. not a cheap stylus that mimics your finger) that I could keep in my work bag in case I forgot my Apple Pencil. I decided to try pencil. To really try this out, I used it instead of my Apple Pencil for a few days. He did well. However, it has several problems. Firstly, I understand that it should be easier for kids to keep in shape or something, but that's uncomfortable and gets uncomfortable after a while. The Apple Pencil is much better in this regard. Second, it's not pressure sensitive like the Apple Pencil. That's not a problem for me since I've turned off pressure sensitivity in the program I use to mark up documents, but if you want to use Crayon to draw, draw, and more, the Apple Pencil is the way to go. Third, the charging cover pops up almost constantly at the top. Granted, this won't bother most people, but if, like me, you get a little anal into things, the constant need to shove it back in will drive you crazy. All in all, I'm glad I bought the pencil. It perfectly serves the purpose I bought it for. However, it will not replace my Apple Pencil.
