As a professional photographer/videographer, I always try to make my tool arsenal as efficient as possible by replacing disposable items with more versatile items. Considering the low price, I felt it was a very safe entry point to stabilization for vlogging and travel where I needed to pack a light. I'm glad I took this step. My standard video stabilization pack is the Moza Air 2 with the Fuji XH1+ lens attached, which weighs a whopping 6.5 pounds. You can get Smooth X with my iPhone for just 20 ounces. And it fits in my pocket. That's great. Well, I wouldn't fool myself into thinking the Smooth X could replace the Moza Air 2's workhorse, but in a pinch I got incredibly smooth, usable footage from this tiny package. Another great benefit of this tiny gimbal is that it makes me look like a tourist with a selfie stick, so I can capture smooth footage without drawing attention. The retractable neck also allows me a great vlogging angle without having an ultra wide lens on my phone. Let's get to the specifications. This gimbal is 2 axis so vertical movement is not eliminated but for the price I can't complain. If you absolutely need 3 axis, get a 3 axis gimbal. 3 axis is more powerful and attracts more attention. Either way, I'd rather shoot handheld any day. The retractable neck allowed me to get smooth shots from the ground and even some great panoramic shots way above the heads of everyone in the crowd. This is very useful in the context of the recent protests and demonstrations. The controls on the handle allow you to start/stop recording, as well as pan and zoom in the dedicated app. It is very beginner-friendly and has a battery life of 8-10 hours. Surprisingly, in a crowded stabilizer market, the 2-axis gimbal gets as much attention as the Zhiyun Smooth X. Surprisingly, this gimbal works as both a compact and a regular gimbal. The selfie stick is surprisingly good. Will it replace the more powerful 3-axis gimbals? no Can I take this to places where I can't use the 3 axis gimbal? Definitive. Getting shot is better than not getting shot 10 times out of 10. That's a win in my book.
