They keep your filter cartridges clean!
The skimmer socks are a must for any backyard pool owner! If you want clean filter cartridges each time you clean them, (4 month intervals) , you must use them. I clean the skimmer socks about every third day and you would be surprised how much small insects and debris are in them. I have 4 skimmers and 31, 000 gallons. The socks i got on ebay are about .50 each. They are 3.00 each in the pool store. They will last 6 weeks each.
