Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent product - worked perfectly on first try

I wrote a negative review first because the item I received appeared to have been used before; So I sent it back straight away and Revain promptly sent a replacement. This review reflects my actual use of the product. In short, the product was easy to use (if you know how to read and follow the instructions) and it worked flawlessly. The kit includes a programmer that plugs into the vehicle's OBD port and a new aftermarket key fob that can be programmed to a specific vehicle if you have the original, valid key fob. I bought a package for a used 2012 Nissan Altima coupe that only had a key fob. I've already purchased an OEM Nissan replacement key fob but found the local locksmith to charge nearly $80 to program it. and of course the retailer wanted a lot more! Since the Dorman programmer wasn't much more expensive than the local locksmith said, and since the Dorman also comes with a key fob, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. Again, everything worked flawlessly on the first try, and I now have THREE working keychains; This is great because we have three riders in our family. Based on some of the negative reviews posted on this site; I realized that in many cases the product failure was due to user error. Therefore I offer the following tips. First, download and print the PDF of the instructions available on Revain as part of the product description. Then read and study these instructions carefully at least four or five times before proceeding. Also, keep the instructions handy as you complete the programming steps. Second, before you start programming, get in the car, close the doors and turn off everything (radio, navigation system, heater/air conditioner fan, etc.). Third, never touch the brake pedal while programming. Fourth, BEFORE connecting the programmer to the OBD port, push the ignition key once to the "acc" position and then again to the "on" position (the dashboard will light up). From now on, follow the instructions exactly as directed, remembering that after connecting the programmer to the OBD port; Switching from on to off and then off to on (and so on and so on) requires only ONE PUSH of the ignition switch button. Programming the key fob takes about two minutes, but take your time! Where the instructions say "wait at least ten seconds"; You must wait at least ten seconds. To ensure you do this; Take a digital kitchen clock with you, place it on the dashboard and start it to count seconds. I did just that and for example when I had completed a step and had to wait ten seconds, I immediately looked at the timer to see the "start" time. For example, if the timer shows 17 seconds after I complete a step, I would wait until it shows 27 seconds before starting the next programming step. (There are enough "on" and "off" steps in the programming sequence to play around with the added chore of starting and stopping the stopwatch or timer as part of the process! Keep it simple.) To some Correcting misunderstandings, as seen in some other users' comments. Yes, you must have an original working key fob to program a new one. Yes, you can program multiple fobs during a single programming session - it only takes two simple steps for each additional fob you wish to program before completing the programming, and the written instructions make it crystal clear. And yes, you must include a metal key that matches the original key with each new key fob; but you may not even be charged for carving the metal key. If you pay, it'll probably only cost you a few dollars. I ended up saving hundreds of dollars with this Dorman product, especially since we needed two extra keychains. If one of our key fobs is ever lost or damaged I can easily program a replacement with the programmer (I understand the programmer allows five programming sessions before it deactivates and so far I have only used one session to program two new key fobs programmed as described above). I am very satisfied with this product.
