You insert the open end into the first slot at the other end of the band. Things line up easily and then the hanging rest of the ribbon has a holder in a different slot. It's secure because there's an extra slot that keeps the strap in place. In addition, it does not heat up, especially in summer or during training. Apple should take note of this design, buy out the patentee and move on to this design. I am not affiliated with anyone who makes watch straps.
