Review on SONY MDR-Z1R WW2 Signature: Superior Sound Quality in Black (International Version) by Roger Sanders

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lightweight, allows listening and a comfortable build quality.

I'm a bit of a headphone freak and I own most of the quality headphones on the market, from Audeze LCD2 and LCD-X to T1 and Focal Utopias. These Sony's have a quality driver and sound pretty good for a closed can, but the sound is very sculptural with an emphasis on mid-bass. Sub-bass is limited and high frequencies are severely overpowered. They remind me of the LCD2, but even softer. The highs roll even more and are less dynamic and the bass is not as tight. They react to the equalizer on both sides. What I like: Excellent resolution Decent size, large and precise soundstage Sturdy construction Comfortable: light and soft Excellent insulation: I'm currently using it on an airplane. They're big and expensive, but there aren't any audiophile noise-cancelling headphones other than the AKG N90Q that aren't as comfortable. Good sound for a closed can. Respond to compensation. Balanced replacement cable. Also, around 30 hours of recording time can be enjoyed for the right music/time. Cable: WyWires Red. DAC: RHA Dacamp1 in balanced mode.
