I bought two colors, hesitant. It turns out that the size of these shelves is exaggerated in the photos, and the proportions are very different from those seen in the photos taken in the room. If the shelf is almost touching the ceiling, the ceiling should only be about 7 feet high. Appearance is much shorter, more compact and generally smaller in real life, so measure carefully. (The chairs shown in the demo photos must be child size.) After assembling the two pieces, the white metal shelf with gray oak laminate looked great (make sure the screw is on the middle shelf first, the item's design is non-snapping of the middle shelf if you attach the top and bottom first if you follow the included instructions). The gold and white shelf is designed much more compactly than in the photos and appears dense and chunky in reality and not as high, open and spacious as in the picture. The specs are correct, it shows a shelf in a room with furniture that confuses you, it doesn't give a good idea of the room to size ratio. It took me over 2 hours to assemble the gold/white and then the top bars weren't straight up and down, they were askew and splayed at an angle at the top. I had to disassemble, repackage and drive to an Amazon locker because it was impossible to collect the heavy package. If the proportions of the shelf had been shown accurately in the photos I would have made a more informed purchase. I ended up keeping the white and gray laminate shelf and it looks great. I mounted it on cinder blocks under my feet to make room underneath for extra storage on the floor and I sent the white and gold shelf back because it didn't have the same overall look as the photos due to the proportions being so wrong. The white and gold shelf looks more like a display case from a retail store in a mall.
