Late review but positive.

I bought this Boytone unit in March 2016 and it still works perfectly. I would happily give five stars if it weren't for the issues with the radio, which I'm going to talk about now. I bought it mainly for the 3 speed player and the ability to encode LPs to MP3s without having to connect it to a computer. I have a collection of over 2,500 pre-WWII 78 RPM records that I have been collecting for thirty-five years and am looking for an easy way to convert music to digital format. This Boytone player/recorder does the job perfectly. After recording music onto an SDHC card, I pop the card into my laptop and convert the files to WAV format for noise reduction and editing. A common claim I've heard about these retro turntables/radios is that the arm and cartridge sound too heavy to play LPs and 45s. While I haven't played many of these on my unit (they play with no problems) I found the tonearm and cartridge too light to play 78s with the included LP/45 stylus, the smaller ones the stylus tends to wobble a bit the larger groove 78, resulting in some display distortion. When playing 78s, I attach a weight (quarter) to the bowl behind the needle and the problem is solved. Never put a weight directly on the needle itself, so as not to damage the record, regardless of its brand. I bought two extra LP/45 pens, one of which is used exclusively for LP and 45 records. It would not be a good idea to play records with a stylus that has played a lot of 78s. Cassette player works perfectly. Of course, this is just a player, not a recorder. Its only functions are play and fast forward. Cassette music can also be converted to MP3. One of the biggest complaints about this Boytone turntable is the radio. FM station reception is good, but I was only able to pick up a local AM station or two. This radio does not come with presets for your favorite stations. The most annoying thing, as already mentioned, is that when you turn the device off and on again, the radio doesn't stay on the previously tuned station, but goes back to the first frequency of 87.5 MHz (same for AM band). ). For this reason I cannot give this device a full five stars. But for recording, this Boytone player suits me. And I hope it works for a few more years. UPDATE June 6, 2017: I found a 78 stylus for this turntable through Revain and my 78s sound better than the LP/45 stylus. Even my Edison Diamond discs play with less noise and more fidelity despite being vertically sliced and not playing 100% on a non-Edison phonograph.
