Review on πŸ”Œ Digital Coaxial to Optical Converter: Bi-Directional Audio Converter Adapter by Corey Burgess

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Bad coaxial cable included

In general, the device is excellent. As in the other user review, I have a Logitech Z-680 which I wanted to use the coaxial input on as the optical is already being used for other purposes and I found this an attractive option over an audio multiplexer. The finished package is thus considered a DOA. This is because the coaxial cable that comes with it is of very poor quality and effectively results in the receiver not being able to recognize the digital signal. After some frustration, I finally decided to try other cables. First cable swap and voila, everything works! The overall look of the coax cable (and frankly the optical cable) feels cheap and doesn't feel like it's in close contact with the converter or my receiver (assuming the cost of the device is cheap). , so I didn't expect much other than that it should work out of the box. EDIT: Out of curiosity, I measured the continuity/resistance of the coax with a digital multimeter. The inner conductor had a resistance of about 0.6 ohms and the outer conductor had no continuity (i.e. the cable is defective and will never work with a coaxial digital audio device).
