I have been tattooing for over 45 years and have been teaching it in public education courses for 3 years for which I have written the tatting textbook "Beginning of Tatting: Textbook: Art". and a collection of handicrafts. I bought these shuttles for my students to use on many occasions. Slightly smaller than Boyle's shuttles, they fit perfectly in the hand and glide smoothly between the threads when working on a pattern. Being small they do not take up as much standard crochet thread as would be desirable for larger designs, although they will complete a snowflake of this material, but are suitable for standard tatting thread used in weddings and other decorations, fully suitable. Top. They are definitely more than enough for common sewing threads used to make note cards and baby lace. The pointed end isn't as easy to use for catching mistakes, but it's also not prone to accidentally snagging on the strands if it slips through your hands while weaving, like a boilie does. (I generally find that a small hook is often best to eliminate mistakes if they happen anyway.) Like most plastic balls, this one has a fixed "post" so it needs to be wrapped as is , unlike a boilie that has a removable coil. when passed through the hands while weaving, as a boilie can do.
