The instructions are far from good. Even after watching videos on You Tube I found that some details were left out. I'm very mechanical by nature but still had to take the time to double check everything. The carrier is as strong as stone and works like glass when done right. Best advice is to make sure the gate is latched very securely and I would also tape where the gate meets the bodywork to ensure there is no movement when the original hinges are removed and the new retainer installed. Take your time and the bracket/hinges work perfectly. I love the product once installed properly. UPDATE - I had a tire retainer for a year. Last winter headlight mouldboard set out of the body. There are NO problems with this carrier. I use my JK tailgate several times a day and am impressed with the quality of this unit.
