We have a set of these filters but we need a second set. They filter dust and pet hair very well. While they may seem a bit pricey, they aren't. A decent disposable metal air filter like this one starts at $20 each and up. I live in an area where dust storms are "normal" so a monthly filter change is a must. So we bought a second set of these. They are easy to clean. They can be washed or vacuumed. We do both, but we have a lot of allergies. After vacuuming them and rinsing them off with a garden hose, we exposed them to the sun. They dry quickly. Don't be fooled by the acquisition cost. We use two filters in our house, and at $20 for a disposable filter, we're spending $40 a month, which adds up to $480 a year. With our washable filters under $100 (for 2 filters), we already saved $380 in the first year! And our first set is over 4 years old so we've saved a lot of money over the years. I know you'll notice the difference in air quality right away.
