I give the product an overall rating of 4 stars out of 5, mainly because of its quality/scan ability and flexibility, especially given the price. It doesn't get that extra star due to a few shortcomings. Even with a 4/5 rating, this is a great product - special. when you consider what comparable flatbed scanners or specialized slide/negative scanners cost. The product was bought primarily to scan old slides and prints. The quality of the scanned images from the slides was excellent. It is very practical to be able to scan 4 slides at the same time with the supplied template. I was pleasantly surprised at the resolution of each scan of each individual frame. At the highest resolution, scan times are quite long, but produce details not visible to the naked eye (e.g. negatives are thoroughly cleaned before scanning). When printing on 4" x 6" plain paper, a lower resolution will likely suffice, resulting in faster scan times. For larger prints, a higher/highest resolution is recommended, e.g. B. 8.5 x 11 inches. When scanning prints, CanoScan recognizes very well the number of prints on the glass surface (max. 4), including offset correction β the print is misaligned and has the correct correction orientation (although if the glass surface is exactly 8.5 inches wide and 11 inches long, placement of the print would be much easier - as it is, some care must be taken to ensure the prints are not cut when scanned out). The resolution of the scanned images is a bit disappointing. It was hoped that it would scan as well as slides, but the maximum resolution turned out to be 600 DPI. A very useful feature of the software is that when scanning several printouts (maximum 4) at the same time, the software also recognizes individual images, distinguishes them and saves them in separate files. The software's interface design might not be the most intuitive. but after finding out, it's acceptable. It saves scanned images in .BMP format to a temporary folder of user's choice. Before saving to a permanent location in a different format (e.g. GIF, JPG, etc.), scanned images can be rotated or flipped in their original format (useful when slides are unintentionally misaligned) while still in preview mode . Among other things, the most annoying aspect of the software is that it is not very flexible and allows the user to choose file names with a wider range. The product is very energy efficient - 18W in scan mode, 1.5W in standby mode. The use of LEDs really speeds up product turn-on, reduces long stand-by costs and reduces the likelihood of light source problems - both upstairs and downstairs. CANON chose to use a chunky thick cable to connect the lid/cover to the base. Unfortunately, CANON does without a permanently installed ribbon cable instead, which would otherwise not be accepted. The lid/lid stays in place when opened 90 degrees - at least while it's new. My concern is that it may not stay in place over time, making it difficult to use when fitting slides/negatives/prints, and can be difficult/expensive to tighten. Source material (it is not clear why the surface area of the glass is larger). Because of this, the product can be considered a bit large and unwieldy. It also measures 4 inches tall. Given its inherent bulkiness, it's a shame CANON didn't design it for legal documents up to 14 inches long - an extra 3 inches wouldn't make much of a difference.
