So I got this filter - built in, for the first time this year I started the system from the AC grid. A few days later I encountered an AC problem. I had a freon leak, came to find out. So my condenser had to be pulled out, and it turned out to be just a bad valve. However, my condenser was so dirty that air could hardly get through. My friend cleaned it up, dammit. When I asked him what I could do to prevent the condenser from becoming like that again, he said that basically it comes down to changing the filter frequently and vacuuming the condenser frequently. In the past I wasn't very good at changing filters. I don't have much money and switched every 6 months or so. Sometimes the filter got so clogged that I pulled it out and was left with nothing until I could afford to install new ones. That's what happened. . Apparently that is SO important. I look forward to having a filter that I can wash and reuse monthly, you have no idea how often. It's not expensive at all considering you have to buy disposable filters even for a year. It's worth it.
