Review on πŸ“Ά Revolutionary Linksys EA9400 Max-Stream AC5000 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Tri-Band Gigabit Router for Ultimate Wireless Performance by John Kachinosky

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Don't buy this. Run, don't walk, but get away from this router. Waste of four hours

Let me start by saying that I've been configuring routers since 1988. And I've been a Linksys fan since before they were acquired by Cisco. I used open source software to create large mesh networks using an old WRT54G. This is an expensive and clearly powerful router. And I've never seen anything like it. This is the most sophisticated piece of consumer electronics I have ever come across. This is what happens when you give children access to compilers. It's so "smart" that you just can't tweak it. It's incredibly slow on the menu. And it childishly takes you from one "automatic" error to the next. I finally got it and was able to connect and disconnect over both Ethernet and wireless, get a username and password and all it took was setting up an internet connection, which of course couldn't be done automatically. before me. And right in front of me was a blue EDIT link - like almost every Linksys router. But it just didn't work. No matter what I did, I could NOT get it to change the non-existent internet connection into something useful. I have a static IP cable connection, as do 60 million other households. So this is hardly a one-off situation. This router is unsuitable for everything I can think of. But the condescending and slow "automatic" actions he tries to do and does it very, very badly cause irritation. The software is just heroically bad.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
