Don't bother with a bad menu. (But this is the first piece of electronics that has ever given me instructions in Pidge English.) I don't mind a slow start. So loading takes a few minutes. Just like the PC. So what? What I'm really interested in is whether or not it can do the job and unfortunately it LACKS the ABILITY to play videos. Come on! The screen twitches twice a second no matter what you're playing and it just gives me a headache, and I don't usually have a headache. I can't stand 5 minutes and with 150 hours transcoding time I really don't want to go there. The video output on the big screen is the same. A lot of people are used to pulling videos from the internet, but these are more or less unpredictable jerks. It's happening at 2Hz, yes, twice a second, and it doesn't stop. I downloaded the video files to my computer and they play fine. I suspect that the device simply does not have the necessary power to decode MP4 files (AVI extension) and play videos smoothly at the same time. The video I am talking about was recorded by the DEVICE so it should at least play smoothly. Unfortunately, no. I spent $300 on this thing please don't make the same mistake. Don't get me wrong, if you want to see pictures or listen to music it does what it says on the tin, but overall you're better off. with a stack of discs and a portable DVD player or even a laptop with an optical drive. My advice is don't buy PMP unless you see it working. Finally, you should care about how it works. I read so many reviews before purchasing and NO ONE mentioned the choppy video. I hope this helps at least one person avoid this crap. One thing I wanted to know that no one said anything specific about is, can I use a flash drive to play videos? The answer is no. It loads files from a flash drive (or any other USB drive) and lets you play them from the built-in hard drive. Another thing is that it works well as a 40 gigabyte USB drive for PC and I will for that use it if at all. Now I need to find a GOOD video player. Let me know if you find one!
