You NEED a cutting mat with measuring lines and a spinning blade before attempting to cut this. I don't have these things and have long tried to measure and cut a straight line with scissors. I messed up the first piece, but I lined up the remaining pieces on my hardwood floor, using the line between the boards as a guide; obviously not perfect so take my advice and use the right measuring and cutting tools. I didn't have a water spray bottle so I used a wet rag; Buy a bottle because the more water, the easier it is to adjust. It's only been about an hour and it still looks great and provides enough privacy for that door while our dog can still look out and enjoy his favorite spot in the sun. It perfectly protects from the sun despite the stripes; This foyer gets the sun most of the day and gets very hot the rest of the day. All in all a great product if you have the right tools to use it.
