The ties are sewn to the robe.
It's great except with where the ties are sewn I have to adjust how the robe lies. I'm 5' 3", the ties are sewn I'd say right at the bottom of my bra line when just putting it on. Once tied, I can pull it down and it stays. Just kind of annoying but it is really well made and comfortable. I have washed it twice and it has not shrunk.
