Review on Reinforced Wheelbase Carbon Bottom Quadcopter by Jessica Ness

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Looks sturdy, you'll need longer screws and a file

My Crux3's bottom plate broke when it crashed into a meadow. I was surprised it broke on such a soft surface. This is probably due to how thin and light the stock plate is. This new plate is thicker and reinforces right where the lead has cracked. I think it will hold up much better and probably survive the same fall. The extra strength offsets the extra weight. The grain pattern on the new plate is well aligned with the temples and is quite stiff. There is no bevel, although I didn't expect it and I don't want to. All hole patterns match the standard plate perfectly. I would give 5 stars but there are two small issues. First, the new, thicker base plate gets in the way of USB. You can see in my attached photo. I filed this part down maybe 1mm or so and now it fits, so it's no big deal. The second problem is that I want it to come with new motor mounting bolts. I didn't consider the need for new bolts, but the stock Crux3 motor bolts are too short to use with a thicker frame. I have ordered some new screws and now have to wait for them to arrive to complete the repair. It would be nice if the frame came with the right size screws. I'd happily pay a few bucks more to save me the trouble of finding new screws.
