Review on πŸ”¬ Bonvoisin High-Precision Electronic Analytical Scientific Tools by Hayden Hart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great scale for the price, see notes for viewing angles and accuracy.

[Build quality] Rating: 1- (for the price) The finish is exactly as expected. The product images are untouched and represent the product very accurately so there were no surprises. The round metal shell is easy to remove, very thin and has sharp ridges on the edges. The case is made of matt black plastic - equal to the price, I can't complain about that. The device is powerful enough that pressing the buttons does not cause the device to "bounce". The buttons feel "good" - they are tactile and have an audible click. In general I am satisfied. The LED has viewing angles from 45 to 80 degrees (with 0 degrees looking straight at the front of the device and 90 degrees looking at the top). It's fine if you're sitting a lot higher than the scale, but if it's at eye level and you can't get at least 45 degrees on it, you'll have trouble reading the scale. The DC adapter that came with the unit was of poor quality, not a standard USB connector although it could have been. I didn't use the DC adapter for more than a few minutes because I decided to use AA batteries in the scale. [Use] This device is very easy to use. The backlight appears to turn on regardless of the light level. Auto shut off is a nice feature that some other similar products don't have. The device turns on immediately - without calibration or warm-up period. [Accuracy] I was able to test the accuracy of this scale to 0.001lb (0.45g) and it was true. [Accuracy] I tested accuracy by taking multiple measurements on three different items. All of the items I tested (220g, 380g and 440g) were able to produce two measurements that differed by 0.06g to 0.08g depending on orientation and point of sale. The device was placed on a level surface. [Recommendations] Placing the object in the same location and orientation yielded the advertised accuracy of 0.01g. I don't currently have any weight standards to test with. Measuring small objects in the middle of the scale will probably solve the accuracy problem. Be sure to use a small sample plate to keep everything centered.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
