Like you, I did a lot of research before purchasing these shoes. My main goal was to use them as running shoes and not running shoes. Shoes run a full size smaller, so if you have a 10.5, buy an 11.5. I've hiked and ridden a lot of dusty roads in this shoe and the shoe has held up well. I have two issues with shoes, both minor. First, the shoes are not very pretty. I bought the black version and it's not entirely black. When you walk on dusty roads, it looks greyish. I think you can wear them to the office if you clean them well. The fit is good, but it still *looks* a bit bulky. Great fit again. The second complaint is that it stinks so needs to be washed regularly. That tells me the ventilation isn't as strong as it should be. However, it's a great all-around shoe that has become my go-to choice for everyday use and travel. For example, if you are going on a trip to Europe, these are probably the shoes you should take with you for hiking in different areas. I highly recommend it.
