I'm by no means a sanding expert but they work well. Good sharpening consumables are prohibitively expensive, so I decided to give it a try. I use mine with soapy water and smooth them out with a cheap diamond stone. However, they do wear out quickly (faster than an old stone I found in a tool shed years ago), possibly something in an inferior bond. If you don't have a diamond leveling stone (all you need is a cheap stone to keep it flat) you will start to wear down the center and it won't be flat anymore. But a good way to quickly remove a lot of material
