The purpose of this unit is to get lots of air through large activated carbon and HEPA filters and it does that very well. It's a fairly large, sturdy, black and white enamelled box (metal, so odorless) that sucks air in from the front and blows it out the sides and top. It has no remote control, no backlit displays, no automatic functions, and they are not needed. The only controls are the fan speed up and down buttons, which you can adjust from 0 to 5. A small unlit LED display shows you the setting. At low speeds it is very quiet and makes a slight constant sound of air movement. At maximum speed there is a clear sound of the wind and slams the curtains. The fan motor runs quietly with no hum, hum or rattle. We bought it because we had problems with nasal congestion and headaches in the morning. We put the block in the bedroom and let it run on level 2 all night. It doesn't disturb our sleep at all. During the day we set it to 4 so that it can affect the entire 1300 m². Foot; However, the effectiveness of this probably depends on having our convection heating/air conditioning running to mix the air between our rooms. Of course, whether it achieves what you want depends on what the problem is. We don't know what caused our problem - maybe dust or something chemical from paint or building materials - but our sleep has improved and we wake up in better shape than before. It seems to remove cooking smells and the whole room that used to have a slightly odd smell is now almost odorless. We are very happy with the unit.
