Review on CARL 18-inch Heavy πŸ“ Duty Rotary Paper Trimmer - 12238 by Heather Shaw

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality workmanship and good trimmer

I've waited months to write a review. I've tried several cutters that I initially liked, but then found that they fall in popularity as I use them. I wanted something that cuts straight and leaves sharp lines. I was a bit concerned that some of the reviews said it wouldn't work even after a while. I found that true. HOWEVER, I've used it many times and found that due to the amount of cuts, a new blade may be needed. I replaced the blade and was ready to go again. Since I work 4-5 hour paper shifts 4-6 days a week, I estimate a blade lasts around 5 weeks. When the paper begins cutting unevenly, I know it's time to change blades. I am very happy with this purchase. Cuts thick, ultra-thin, and medium-thick leaving the sharp, clean cut I need. I've had several trimmers of the same price that just wore out (one with a blade that was never replaced, don't believe the story, the one where I ripped the paper instead of cutting for two months). In terms of money and results, it was my best result. Loading is a bit fiddly at first (it has a blocking step) but once I get used to it it's great and I like it because the paper doesn't move after blocking. A few thick layers may slip off (again, especially when the blade is older), but it still cuts cleanly and slipping can be avoided with help. I would say it doesn't do a good job of trimming the ribbon (e.g. line width) but I've never seen a trimmer do it so well. Even with that in mind I can say that when I need to straighten a cut across a line I have only found one that produces a cut that in most cases does not show a partial cut. I've read some photo cutting reviews, which I don't do. I cut glossy photo paper and it worked for me. In my experience, cutting a lot of glossy paper will result in faster blade wear (a lot for me - 75-100 cuts). I would buy it again and have a supply of blades so I assume that I will use it for a long time. The cutting guide can be used 4 different ways, I rotate it every time I change blades just because I see fit. Fresh blade, fresh runway seems like a good idea. I also like that the overall weight isn't flimsy, but it's not that heavy either. to move it. Seems to be well designed
