I bought this hat because I needed an alternative to beanies for a short time during the winter. I prefer my hat collection and it allows me to wear hats over it. It keeps my ears warm on the commute from the parking lot to the grocery store and home, but isn't heavy enough for extreme conditions. Don't expect it to keep your ears warm in a snow storm, but it works great for a short time in autumn/winter.
