There have been some horror stories about hacking cell phones with USB chargers that have been tampered with, so consider this a condom for your safe charging practice with unfamiliar ports. USB connections carry power, but they also carry data, so without a data blocker (or rather, this power-only device) you're putting your device at risk. I have tested it in my Android Auto car and when I use this lock device my car cannot connect to my phone via USB to play music and such. It doesn't even prompt, which tells me it's just charging my phone and not connecting to it (other than Bluetooth).
