Review on πŸ’Ύ Silver Glyph Atom RAID SSD – External USB-C, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt 3 (4TB) by Dewitt Bhattacharya

Revainrating 4 out of 5

REVISED - Not sure if it's buggy or what; slow write speed but excellent read speed

UPDATE: I've posted a new screenshot as my write speed has improved after removing 70GB of data from my drive. It used to have 20GB of free space left and I assume that was the reason for the slow write speed? I know that not having RAM affects performance, but leaving 20GB of space hasn't been a problem on any of my other SSDs, so I'm deducting a star because I don't just have to leave around 100GB of free space to maintain write speed. I love this SSD very much. The ratio of speed and storage capacity is by far the best on the market for an SSD of this size; The only way to get a faster SSD right now is to buy one with Thunderbolt 3 technology. However, only a handful of these are available right now (and with a premium you get 1TB for the same price as the 4TB Glyph Atom, but 3x transmission speed is really your choice). Previous Review: I posted a screenshot of the speed test, but as the title says, the write speed I'm getting is way below the read speed. They advertise up to 950MB/s which we all know is way over optimistic, although the read speed is pretty close to 730-800MB/s but for some other reason it only gives me a write speed of around 130 -150MB/s. With. I know my USB-C port or cable isn't the problem as I've tested it with multiple ports and devices, so this is either misleading advertising or my SSD is defective. However, I like 4TB of storage.

Pros
  • Rugged and shockproof
Cons
  • Security
