I am renting a large master bedroom in a large old house in Southern California with no air conditioning. My room doesn't have traditional windows, just a large sliding glass door, so the window air conditioner wasn't practical. I wanted to try and find something that would cool me down no matter where I was in the room (while working on my laptop or eating) so I settled on an evaporative cooler. My friend said her daughter had had success with a small, inexpensive one in her dorm, so I thought I might have a chance. It didn't even affect the heat in that room, even though the room was big I didn't even feel cool when he was right in front of me and my face was right in front of him. I followed all directions and used ice cream as recommended. It might have been too hot in this sauna-like space, but like I said, I didn't get cold even if I was only a few inches away. I know some people have had success with this, so who knows. Too bad because it was very easy to use and easy to set up. I returned it and had to order a portable air conditioner plus extra gear to make it efficient outside the sliding glass door - all for just 10x the price of this kid. =
