Gently pull on the perforations
The perforations are on the side not the bottom of the bag and the folded layers of the bag seemed to separate when I pulled the bag off the roll and I had to they smooth out the perforations again. Opening the bag is not enough to fill a standard household bucket. I decided to use them for a small trash can although they are bigger than I would like.
