I wanted to love him; not a huge difference between the Apple EarPods mic

The biggest draw of this mic for me is the 9.8ft cord that allows me to move around while my phone stays still. Also, it just doesn't have enough bang for my buck. For starters, as the description says, this mic CANNOT be used for phone calls or for online chatting. It is impossible for the microphone and headphones to work at the same time. This really limits the usability of the product. A microphone has one purpose and one purpose only, which seems wasteful when there are products with comparable sound quality that can do more. Which brings me to sound quality: the Pixel's mic-out hands down outperforms the mic on Apple AirPods. There really is no comparison. However, when I compared it to Apple's wired EarPods, the differences between the two were subtle: a recording made with the EarPods was quieter when played back, but I picked up less ambient noise. Having the cord dangling from my face was a little annoying, but that's easily circumvented by simply not wearing headphones while recording (a small clothespin can secure the mic to my hands-free collar, which is no different than what the has pixels). The recording, made with the Pixel's microphone, had a much stronger output, but it caught a gust of air from my mouth as I spoke. The Pixel sounds best when held about a meter from my mouth (like on my lap when I'm sitting). Unfortunately, that's not very good for a LAPEL mic. In ideal conditions (about a meter from my face during a call) the Pixel's sound quality is better than the Apple EarPods. But when clipped to the lapel/collar of a shirt, the EarPods actually produce a clearer, albeit weaker, sound. Since EarPods cost about half the price and can be used for phone calls, online chats/meetings. , or anything else where you need to use your mic and headphones at the same time, I suggest getting a pair of EarPods (and a pack of small clothespins if hands-free calling is required). If a short cord length is a problem, zipped extensions are available that will still cost you less money than you spend on them.
