Basic compact camera

If you're looking for an ultra-portable camera that takes great pictures and doesn't require knowledge of camera settings, this is the best. I have a black model. It's elegant and stylish. I also have a Canon S5 with lens and filter attachments which gives me almost mirror control over camera settings. But it's a bit bulky, so I don't take it with me most of the time. The SD1400 is very small. Fits in every pocket. It feels great in hand. The rounded edges are a big improvement over previous models, which were a bit boxy and sharp despite being small. The SD1400 is Canon's thinnest camera. The photo quality is impressive. Not as good as bulkier cameras with large CCD chips, but if you want 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10 prints, or if you'd like to view your photos on an HDTV or computer screen, this camera is perfect for you. I shoot everything in 9 megapixels, not the maximum resolution of 14 megapixels. The Digic IV firmware is great. I like autofocus, image stabilization and face detection. It is further improved over previous Digic generations. There are many other features that can be very useful, such as: B. the blink detection, and some of these I will rarely use. The fisheye effect is fun, as is the color change. But you can also do this in post-processing. You have some control over the settings, but the automatic mode works so well, why bother? Take photos and get back to what you are doing. This is the camera to quickly document the events of your life without being seen. This is not for professional use. If you think about it like that, you will be very satisfied. Wide aperture range, good 4x zoom and decent low light performance. Compares well to any small point and shoot camera you can find today. The HD video quality is excellent. 720P is perfect for my needs. Although 1080P is not supported, my dual-core PC handles 720P much better during editing. And it looks great on an HDTV with the Revain Mini HDMI to HDMI cable. I would like an HDMI cable to come with the camera, but cables are cheap online. I also wish you could use the optical zoom when recording videos. The SD1400 replaces my excellent 8MP Canon SD870 camera which had the dubious "lens error" three times. This happened while it was in my pocket and accidentally pressed the power button. The lens was partially extended and lost. Two repairs were covered under warranty (Amex extended my warranty for an additional year). The last error was after 3 years of the life of the camera. Luckily, Canon fixed the "lens error" issue. On the SD1400, if the lens cannot be fully extended on startup, a message will be displayed, the lens will retract automatically and the camera will turn off. It's a much-needed solution to a long-standing problem with Canon's Powershot compact cameras. You can try this at your local electronics store. It really works! Result. Set the SD1400 to automatic mode and record. You will not be disappointed. It's the best, smallest, sleekest and coolest compact camera out there (until Canon raises the bar in a few years).
